Obituary of Frederick Smith

Rick Smith passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro.  He was 68 years old.  Rick was born in New Brunswick and was raised in Edison.  He has resided in Monroe Twp. since 1985.  He was a 1978 graduate of Rider University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce.  Rick began his professional career with NCR, eventually becoming a Sales Manager before leaving to start his own business.  Along with his business partners he developed, owned, and operated Genesis Educational Services.  Genesis is used today by more than half of the school districts in the state of New Jersey, the state that Rick was proud to call home and where he raised his family.

He was a true people person who made everyone he met feel special. Rick loved nothing more than a Sunday drive in his convertible, lunch with his wife at the Jersey shore, family dinners, and weekends at his beach house with his kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia (Hendriksen) Smith of Monroe Twp., four children, Kendall Popowski and her husband Donald of Hamilton, Morgan DeBoer and her husband Brant of Austin, TX, Sean Smith and his wife Laura of Hamilton, and Kathryn Bilotti and her husband Scott of Hamilton, two siblings, Virginia Thomsen of Columbus, and Robert Smith of Scottsdale, AZ, six grandchildren, Hadley, Rowan, Byron, Lucy, Connor, and Brett, and many other extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, July 24, 2023 and from 10:45am to 11:15am on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555.  Funeral services will begin at 11:15am on Tuesday from the funeral home.  A funeral liturgy will be 12:00pm at St. James the Less RC Church, 36 Lincoln Ave. Jamesburg.  A private cremation will follow the Mass.
