It was my great pleasure to work with Rick at Genesis. My husband Stan worked at Asbury Park NCR with both Rick and Rich and then I was fortunate enough to meet them when Brick Twp. Schools adopted Genesis as their student information system, where I acted as the technology coordinator and main trainer for the district in the implementation of Genesis. I retired from Brick School the following year and joined their staff at Genesis, where I continued to enjoy my love of teaching and was able to provide training to many other districts in the state. I was fortunate enough to spend a wonderful 10 years with Genesis. Rick had a special quality of making sure that he always went above and beyond to personally acknowledge when work was well done. Rick will always hold a special place in my heart.

I had the good fortune to work for and with Rick early in my career. I admired Rick as a self made man, an original jersey boy, accountable and honorable who no matter how dire a circumstance knew what to do and made certain it was done well. As I review in my mind the amazing campaigns we pulled off - masterminded and named by Rick - like Suntan lotion, the Wamp cord, the St. Patricks close, and more I am both chuckling and forever grateful to this humble man. He taught and reinforced through his actions many things but the most important was to go home everyday and raise a family. Rick was so proud of his family. God bless Rick and RIP.

Condolences to Rick’s family from his cousin Joe. I have arranged for the following prayer will be said for Rick and his family at the University of Notre Dame Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, where a single candle representing all prayer requests remains perpetually lit:
"Heavenly Father, we pray today for the soul of Rick Smith. We pray that the saints and angels have carried him through the gates of paradise and that he will rest eternally at Your side in the kingdom of heaven. Lord, we pray for Rick's family and friends who stand before You as they grieve. Bring them strength and faith and comfort them during this difficult time. We pray that You embrace them with Your love and mercy and we pray that they trust in Your will. In Jesus' name, we pray."

I am devastated to hear of Rick’s passing. He was a wonderful friend – more than just a business associate. Rick gave a human touch to our business relationship. I will treasure his visits to my school office, when he popped in, “just to make sure everything was ok”.

To know Rick was to love him. He was interesting and interested in all. We are close neighbors on LBI and watched the family the loved grow through the years. He loved the ocean and loved having his family join them there. The whole street is saddened by the loss and sends heartfelt sympathy to Pat and the family.

Rick was so passionate about his work, he was such a caring, devoted, and intelligent man. While working in Moorestown and Lenape Regional, I ran Genesis users group meetings. Rick would never miss coming to the meeting along with several other Genesis members.
He would go around the room and greet everyone individually. There was not a time that Rick would not make you feel like you were the most important person in the room. He gave his devoted attention while speaking with you.
Rick was more than just work, he was your friend. We shared so many stories about families. He adores his wife and kids. Being a grandfather made him beam from ear to ear whenever he spoke of them. He was so proud of all his kid’s accomplishments. It was a competition between the two of us, who had the most grand kids.
My heart is broken, Rick Smith is a legend. He will live on through many of us. I will forever treasure my time with him.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family, and Genesis family. Rest in peace my sweet friend, I will miss you deeply.

Rick would always come in to the office and start my day with a joke or a family story that would have me laughing all day long. His sense of humor and the love he had for his family could be felt in every conversation he had. A true family man. He will be missed and loved by all who knew him. Sending thoughts and prayers to Patty, Kate, Gin, and all of Rick’s family during this difficult time.

Uncle Rick was such a happy and positive human. He always made the most uncomfortable newcomers feel like family immediately. One of many fond memories I recall was the time he offered me work when I was between jobs. He always helped everyone, before they thought to ask. He paid me too much to paint his beach house on LBI when he purchased it. It was a great job that was such an experience, getting to meet the island natives, as it was in the winter. He left a great impression on me with all the roles he pursued happily and gracefully. He championed each role in my eyes and I honestly believe that he inspired others as a genuine and amazing Father, uncle, husband, brother and friend. He possessed a very uncommonly noble but refreshing persona. I have, and will, truly miss you uncle Rick.

John Adams said that to do good and be good was all we had to do; if that is the case, Rick had it made, for he will be remembered for his uncommon wit & charm, his great sense of humor, the simple pleasures he enjoyed, the many friends he loved, and who loved him, and for the great family he raised with Patty lighting his legacy.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...
It's about learning to dance in the rain.
Rick was a helluva dancer.

Deepest sympathy to Patty, and the kids. I've known Rick for many years. My heart is broken. So many shared experiences and good memories, lunches, drive-by cups of coffee and talking about anything and everything. He used to say, you think your something? Once you leave, put your hand in a bucket of ice, once it not cold people will have forgotten you and what you did. Sorry Pal, you were wrong. Every day, something will remind me of you, you'll never be forgotten.
