Obituary of Nicholas Verzolini

Nicholas Verzolini of Monroe, New Jersey, passed away peacefully in his home on May 10, 2022.  He was 86 years old.  Nicholas was the son of Nicola and Mary Verzolini.  He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, the youngest of 4 children.

In 1957 he married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Joan (née Valenti).  They later moved to Staten Island where they raised their three sons Nicholas, Brian, and Philip.

Nick’s career as a butcher spanned over 60 years.  He was loved and respected by colleagues and customers alike.  Two of his sons followed in his footsteps and chose to also work as butchers.  His meat cutting skills came in handy during the holidays, especially when it came time to cut the Thanksgiving turkey.  

Nick and Joan enjoyed traveling with family and friends.  Among their favorite destinations were Aruba, Las Vegas, and Atlantic City.  Nick was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed watching games from the comfort of his living room.  One of his fondest memories was taking a trip with his son and grandson to Busch Stadium in St. Louis to watch the Cardinals play in person.  He must have brought them luck, as the Cardinals won both games they attended.

More than anything else Nick loved his family unconditionally.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan, his sons and their wives, Nicky and Nanette, Brian and Rosa, Philip and Silvana, his grandchildren Natalie and Ron, Nicole and Dennis, Michael and Ashley, Gina and Mike, Gabriella, and Adrianna, and his great-grandson Charlie.

Visitation will be 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm on Monday May 16, 2022, and 9-9:45 am on Tuesday May 17, 2022 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. – 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ  08831.  Funeral services will begin at 9:45 am on Tuesday from the funeral home.  A funeral liturgy will be 10:30 am at St. James the Less RC Church – 36 Lincoln Ave., Jamesburg, NJ  08831 followed by entombment in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum – Jamesburg.
