John P. (Jack) Hilferty, 73, of Monroe Twp. passed away on Sunday July 19, 2020 at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick.  Jack was born in Atlantic City to John Francis and Pauline Delores (Kelly) Hilferty as John F. Hilferty, Jr., he adopted his confirmation name as his middle name (Peter).  Jack grew up in Ventnor, NJ enjoying the beach, boating and fishing surrounded by family and friends.  Jack received a B.S. from Villanova University and a M.B.A. from Drexel University.  Jack was a Certified Public Accountant, a license he maintained his entire career.  Upon graduating from Villanova University, Jack spent several years as an auditor with the City Controller of Philadelphia.  During his tenure in Philadelphia, Jack met and married the love of his life, Linda Kay Ware.  

Jack left government employment for the property-casualty insurance industry in 1974 joining the Insurance Company of North America (later CIGNA) as an internal auditor.  During his 6 years with INA, Jack held several financial positions including controller and assistant vice president of two subsidiaries.  In 1981 Jack joined Federated Reinsurance Corporation in Houston, Texas.  After a change in ownership, a name change to NEM Re-Insurance and relocation to New Jersey, Jack was elected president serving from 1985 through 1990.  In 1991 Jack accepted a position with The Koa Fire & Marine Insurance Company to establish and operate a management company for Koa's U.S. operations.  Jack served as senior vice president & secretary of Koa's U.S. operations and its successor by merger, NIPPONKOA Insurance Co.'s U.S. management company until his retirement in 2007.  After retirement, Jack kept current on insurance management and regulations by providing consulting to his former employer and others.  After retiring, Jack remained active by volunteering with AARP in its Tax Aide Program and its NJ Speakers' Bureau.  He served as treasurer to the Christian Fellowship Club of Concordia and to the Elks of Jamesburg.  Jack was also a Moose.  

Jack served his country as a reservist for 6 years as a site engineer with the 177th Fighter Group, NJANG, Atlantic City.

Jack enjoyed traveling, golf, fishing and rooting for his favorite teams: Villanova football and basketball, the Yankees and Jets.  But Jack especially enjoyed vacationing with his family, his best friend Rosie and friends in Concordia.  He also enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Sean.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Theresa and his wife of 42 years, Linda Kay (Ware) Hilferty. 

He is survived by a daughter, Laura C. Hilferty of Albuquerque, a son, John F. Hilferty of Monmouth Junction, a brother and his wife, Lawrence & Jeanne Hilferty of Houston, TX and a grandson, Sean Ryan Hilferty.  He is also survived by two sisters in law and their husbands, Hedy & Ron Kubarek of Limerick, PA and Kathy & David James of Charlottesville, VA and by 6 nieces, a nephew, 7 grand nieces and 2 grand nephews.  

Visitation will be 2-4pm & 7-9pm on Wednesday July 22, 2020 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. - 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ  08831.  Cremation is private.
