Charles J. Shakoor, 77, of Monroe Twp. passed away on Sunday May 17, 2020 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.  Charlie was born and raised in Paterson and lived in Fairfield for 47 years before moving to Monroe Twp. in 1999.  He began working at age 12 in a neighborhood grocery store.  Charlie held various positions while he was employed by ShopRite and Pathmark and attained the position of Director of Operations for Wakefern ShopRite stores in 1980.  He owned the Hillside IGA Supermarket before becoming owner/operator of ShopRite of Old Bridge from 1995-2012.  This was the fulfillment of a dream becoming reality.  Charlie was honored as Business Leader of the Year in 1997 from the Chamber of Commerce of Old Bridge, Sayreville and South Amboy.  Charlie was very involved in his community in Old Bridge, donating his time and resources to the schools and various other local organizations.  Many who grew up in Old Bridge will remember "Mr. Shaquarter" from ShopRite where he would give them quarters for the candy machines and rides outside of the store.  Charlie loved sports, especially the NY Yankees and UConn Huskies ladies basketball.  He enjoyed going to car shows and owned a 1950 Cadillac.  Charlie's most precious moments were spent with his grandchildren.  Every Wednesday he would pick them up from school, take them to Quick Check or the dollar store for a treat and spend the day with them.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Julie (Bishop) Shakoor of Monroe Twp., his son, Jeffrey Shakoor of Los Angeles, CA, his daughter Aimee Kierney and her husband Scott of Whippany, his brother, Jack Shakoor of Long Branch, his sister in law, Andrea Ryan and her husband Chris of Monroe Twp., his father in law, James Bishop of Monroe Twp., two granddaughters: Ava Rose Kierney and Julia Grace Kierney, two nephews: Adam Shakoor and Christopher Ryan and three nieces: Holly Shakoor Fleischer, Jill Shakoor and Nicole Ryan.
