Ronald McKinley Logan, of Monroe Township, New Jersey, died Friday, October 14, 2011 in Princeton, NJ. He was born in New York City in 1935. He was one of four children born to the union of McKinley Logan and Mary Ragin Logan and was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Alfonso, Alfred and his sister Elaine. He was educated in the New York City Public School System and later graduated from City University of New York earning his Bachelor of Science and later earned his Masters from Webster University. Ronald proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his military service, Ronald joined that United Nations and eventually served nearly 40 years as a career diplomat. Early in his UN career he and his young family moved to Kampala, Uganda where he worked with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). In the late 1970's the family moved to Vienna, Austria when he transferred to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). After a fulfilling and successful diplomatic career, and living overseas for 30 plus years, Ronald retired as UNIDO Deputy Head General Services. He and Hyacinth remained in Austria, spending time between Vienna and New Jersey. In recent years they've cherished spending more time in Central New Jersey to be close to family. Ronald was a long time member of the Masons in New York City and Vienna, Austria. He was a committed community leader where ever he lived and remained active in the Masons. His community service spanned working as a Boy Scouts leader in Austria and an award winning Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America Transatlantic Council. Once retired, he remained dedicated to service and became a certified tax preparer for the South Brunswick and West Windsor Senior Centers and an Ombudsman for the Princeton Nursing home. Ronald Logan was a competitive marksmen and member of the Diplomatic Schiessverrein, Austria. He was also an avid golfer and played courses around the world. One of his favorite golf stories involved playing a round in Kamapla, Uganda with the ground breaking pro-golfer Lee Elders. He played almost daily and was delighted that his granddaughter, Jacqui showed a fondness and talent for the game. She often accompanied him until his recent illness. Ronald is survived by his wife of 53 years, Hyacinth, his daughter Angela, her husband Richard and their daughter, Jacqueline; his son Mark and his wife Stefanie; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins a host of family and lifelong friends. Devoted friends from around the world will agree, Ronald made a difference and gave back. A memorial gathering will be 12:00pm to 1:00pm on Saturday October 22, 2011 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. A memorial service will commence at 1:00pm.
