Your man, I am sure, will be sorely missed by you all - and, sorry, I never had much of an opportunity to enjoy his friendship. The day we spent at the schoolhouse was well worth remembering: I think Ron and Don hit is off splendidly. Deep regrets, fondly, Hilde L

Dearest Hy,
What a shock to learn of Brother Ron's demise. We had much in common: having gone to the same Junior High(Douglass); the same High School: De Witt Clinton: same local College. We also came from the same "Village" (Harlem River); and most of all, I followed in his big footsteps in a 20 year career in the United Nations. You may recall how graciously you and Ron received me for a UN stay in Vienna. There, you both spared no efforts while I was detailed in Austria. I will never forget your hospitality. His late brother was a younger school mate of mine at Clinton. May they both rest in peace.
To you his wife, son and daughter, deepest condolences. And, as said in Star Wars, may goodness, and mercy and The Forces continue with you.
Sincerely,
Donald E.Fitzpatrick

Dear Hy, Dear Angie, Dear Mark, my wife Vanna and I were dismayed upon receiving, your email announcing your beloved husband and father' s demise.
My association with Ron dated back to more than forty years ago and, ever since I was reassigned to the Division of General Services of UNIDO, I had the privilege and pleasure of working with him elbow to elbow. Over the years that followed, I came to appreciate fully his poise, knowledge, allegiance and friendship. I sincerely regret that, after our retirement and owing to my frequent travels and the physical distance of our abodes, we lost sight of each other.
That notwithstanding, I often found myself thinking of Ron and reminiscing past times and the many challenges we were faced with and carried through with flying colours.

Dear Hyacinth,
Your loss is great and the sadness knows no words...a husband, the beloved, the father who loved his children "uber alles", the proud and loving grandfather, the wonderful and faithful friend and helper to so many people through the years in the community wherever he was...and for Ron, that community embraced an international world--with tolerance and understanding so many of us have benefited from--especially here in Vienna. That you, Angie and Mark were with him an Afro-American family...your light was a beacon for many of us of the same cultural heritage...your welcome mat, your kindness, just taking time out to talk and take care--virtues so many others have forgotten and perhaps never knew. You and Ron together were a beautiful team throughout the years...thank you for just being who you are...it was such a blessing to meet you here in Vienna.
Very sincerely yours,

Part II: Words are not my specialty...but I am trying. Life in a foreign country presents so many vicissitudes...the professional crowning and the personal dilemma of learning a foreign culture and language were far more difficult than most of us ever have imagined in advance. It felt so good to know that you were here even if our professions did not cross. You and Ron were not foreign...you were the best of what we knew from USA...not in words alone, but in deeds...you just were there...like a lighthouse to our various ships sailing in Vienna. When parents and family came to visit, it was without question that they should, no, they must meet Ron and Hy....you were our family! I still recall that my mom was so happy to meet you she could hardly let go of your hand.

What a blessing that in the desert that Vienna seemed to be, there was the oasis to be found with you and Ron´s warmth and hospitality...at Christmas, at Thanksgiving, 4th of July....and so many other occasions. You were America´s best shining bright through the years. You and Ron were the exemplar of PARTNERSHIP...a rare commodity indeed. Thank you for just being there.
For Ron "the strife is over, the battle done, the victory of life is won;"...and he was "a truly great soldier" but far beyond military terms...we are so blessed to have known him. After Olive´s phone call, I assigned myself to contact as many as I could think of and pass on the information. My thoughts and prayers are with you and family in your time of loss.

Dear sweet Hy,
I’m terribly sorry to bother you at such a time. However, I clicked on Ron’s name at the DeMarco web site but couldn’t find a “Guest Book” or anything else into which we could write our parting words. Perhaps you or Angie could copy the words below and write them into it for us. Thanks. When I called my brother Ott to tell him the sad news he sighed and said that from now on Ronny will have to play with yellow balls, not the white ones he marked with a green stripe, which Ott remembered he did from our happy round together in Hungary. Golf up there, he said, is played on the “whites” and not the “greens” and white balls would be invisible. Perhaps he’s right.

Part II: It was one of those prosaic sunny days when I walked by the practice putting green at a driving range called Achau, not far from Vienna. Two men were putting against each other and having a fine time, joking, laughing, and kidding each other about their day’s blunders. (which is always rare among golfers). I recognized the language, of course, and not five minutes later I joined in the competition after shaking hands with Ron Logan and Victor Berry.
This was the start of a wonderful friendship with both of them. Victor and his wife soon left Vienna for the States, however, but Ronny, as I called him (following the Austrian custom of adding an I or a Y to men’s first names), luckily remained for a decade or two. Our friendship deepened, our golf improved, and respect and empathy grew with each profound and articulate story about family, education, jobs, and the illumination of life’s broad spectrum of being.

No matter where, after his name should always stand: a true gentleman, loving husband, fond father, philosopher extraordinary, and a caring “Papi” for a Princess.
When reaching him on the phone I always said…”Hi, Big Brother!” and he’d always respond, “Hi, old Buddy!” When I read Hy’s announcement of his passing I looked up and said, “Good bye, Big Brother.” … I did not have to wait long for his gentle and wonderfully resonant voice to respond with… “Good bye, Old Buddy…”

Janet joins me in these heartfelt condolences to you as Ron has left us. Both of you and your son Mark, too, are treasured memories of our time in Vienna with you in the late '70s. For me, the time was one of working under Ron's guidance with the Boy Scouts. He was such a devoted Scout Master and I was always flattered to be one of the Assistant Scout Masters, a fondest of recollections for me as we watched our son Mark and his brother Alan on their way to maturity. The camping overnights in the Vienna Woods are unforgettable! To this day, Alan takes great pride that he became a Life Scout, an achievement for which he is eternally grateful to Ron, as I am, too.
May the memories of Ron remain ever comforting for you. He remains for me one of the most delightful and caring persons I have ever known and the fondest of Boy Scout memories that make our two sons and me grateful for having known him. Yours ever, Aury

In connection with Bill and Marlene we talked about Ron's life in Austria , first by UNIDO and when he has been retired, playing golf in Tuttendörfl and relaxing in Wallern. We remember with pleasure Ron's birthday celebration in Wallern with a lot of friends with families of different countries and Ron in the middle.
When we have been in NY nearly 10 years ago and visited your first house in Princeton, we saw his life at home with great popularity in the neighborhood and family.
On the occasion of your mail about the celebration we had more knowledge about Ron's life. You can be proud of this man. Anni was fascinated of his deep and friendly voice and his laughing eyes.. Ron has been enthusiastic about little Jacky and the best grandfather for this girl.

He impacted the lives of many people and left behind such wonderful memories for his family and friends. His was truly a life well lived.

I remember the times at grandma's house when Uncle Ronald would assemble a family meeting. I was young then and didn't get the significance of his words of wisdom on character and education. Yet his words of wisdom remained with me and resurfaced when I came into my adulthood where it all took presence in my life. He would say, your image is how you are received, carry yourself with dignity, be what you represent and represent goodness and never stop learning. He made me proud of our name The Logan's.
I am truly grateful to have had Uncle Ronald, a tremendous example of greatness in my life. He represented the lifestyle and character that positions one the receive the Blessings from the Lord.

My dear Hi, Angie, Mark and family,
I am deeply saddened to learn of Ron's passing. When he came to UNIDO in the mid-70s to work closely with me, I knew I had gained not only a fine, professional colleague, but a good friend. I am only sorry that after a relatively short period our paths diverged and thereafter only crossed intermittently. I wish we could have spent more time together.
He was a fine man who, I am sure, will be missed by all who knew him.
My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with you Hi, and all your family, in what I know is a very difficult time.

To the Logan Family
It is said that the only way to have a friend is to be one and that nothing but heaven itself is better than a friend who is really a friend! From our first conversations we and Ron were like old friends!
Ron’s gentle demeanor belied his phenomenal strength of character. His immutable devotion to family, and commitment to friends and community is reflected in the many lives he has touched around the world.
We are deeply saddened by his passing but feel fortunate to have had him for a friend. We are confident that his passing is not a period marking the end of his spirit but merely a comma, denoting a pause and start of something new.
Our deepest condolences to your family,
Timothy and Doretta Sutton

Dear Hy, Angie and Mark,
I am so sad about Ron's passing away and deeply regret that I have not been in touch more often during the last year. Ron played an important role in my life: he was my first boss at UNIDO and I am still grateful for the guidance and support received from him during many years. Although he was a proud father of two wonderful children his heart was big enough to care for many others in a fatherly manner. I will never forget his smile, his deep voice, generosity and the hospitality received at your house. Ron and you have accommpanied me through many stages of my life and Ron will always live on in my heart - someone so special will never be forgotten.

I met Ronald Logan in Vienna 1980. I was greeted then with a warmth and friendliness, which has held steadfast in the 31 years of knowing him. His was a most important address both in Austria and New Jersey for joyness and retreat in both good and difficult times. He has most often referred to me as "his big little Brother". I feel privileged to have had him as my "Best Man", when married in 1987. Ron was plagued by insipid physical illnesses, which perhaps has indeed colored his view of himself. What I and others have come to see of him is a man of incredible generosity, lovingness, true concern for others and one who imparted the feeling of the importance of the "moment" of this life. When on the "Other side", I should hope to find someone like Ronald Logan to fill the void he has now left behind.
In loving Memory, Z. Edmund Toliver and Wife Sabine, Jessica, Daniel, and Kai-Elliot

Dear Hy and Family,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your loving Husband, Father, Opa. I did not meet Ron, but heard a lot about him, also from my brother Lance who regarded Ron as a good friend. When I first arrived to live in Vienna, he asked that I cook some Jamaican food for his friend. Unfortunately this was during the process of your departure from Vienna. Nevertheless over the years we have developed a friendship which I treasure.
Ron has run his race and finished the course. May he find his crown of victory awaiting him as he enters upon his new life in another dimension. I heard a beautiful analogy recently, that as we watch the ship bear our Loved One away and the ship sinks below the horizon, the ship is approaching another shore where there are others who wait to welcome the new arrival. Perhaps Lance is among them.
May Light perpetual shine upon Ron and grant him Peace.
With Love
Hyacinth

Dear Aunt Hy, Angie and Mark
Uncle Ronald will always remain an icon to this family. We all looked up to him as the leader, spokesperson and example of what is good about this world. As a young man I often wished If only I could be as strong, precise and endearing as this majestic man.
He was our hero when we had none. He was our inspiration when we needed one
and he will always be my main man. I truly
loved him..and hope that I can be just half
the man that he was...I am so sorry for this
family's loss.

Dear Hy,
I was deeply saddened to receive the news that Ron had died. You and your family have my sincere sympathy in your time of bereavment. I shall always treasure the fond memories that I have of you and Ron as well as the gracious hospitality extended to me in Vienna and at your farmhouse in Austria, especially my attempts to swim in your mechanized swiming pool. As you will do, I shall also miss Ron and his friendship very much. May GOD be with you and may Ron rest in the arms of Jesus.

Dear Hy, Angie and Mark,
You cannot imagine the shock I had when I read the sad news.
Ron and I served on many of UNIDO's committees for a long time (the one advising the Commissary). I greatly appreciated and respected his honesty, impartiality and sense of fairness. He had a unique sense of humor. I also admired him for the time he devoted to Scouting and maintaining its ethical values. I too was a keen Scout. In fact, my first contact with Austria was at the 1951 Jamboree in Bad Ischl.
When I retired I joined his golf club at Tutteldorf, and admit I did't enjoy the game as much as his company. In fact, soon after his departure for the States I gave up golf completely.
Ron proposed to me to join his Masonic Lodge. After he left for the States I learned that my paternal grandfather was a Freemason; (he was a founding member of a Lodge in Tripoli, Lebanon).
Pray that God gives you strength to overcome your grief and live with the memories of a happy family.

Dear Hy,
Words cannot express how very sorry I am for your loss. I wish I had words to comfort and sustain you in your grief, but I know there are none that will take away any pain you are feeling now.
However, you have such a wonderful group of family and friends. Their love will get you through this.
I want you to know that his spirit has touched many people's lives as it has mine. He was a wonderful friend and mentor to us and will be greatly missed.
I came across this verse and I thought of Ron –
"His life earnest, his actions kind,
A willing hand, an active mind,
Anxious to please, loath to offend,
A loving brother and faithful friend."
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.

Dear Hyacinth, Angie and Mark Logan
I can recall when Ronald was a very young fella working at a store in Harlem nearby on the weekends and delivering groceries in the neighborhood. He was earnest and quiet and always working hard. He gave life his best even then and that is why he was well respected by family members and others. May he Rest in Peace.

Ron and I met shortly after he joined UNIDO and in 1978 he invited me to Thanksgiving dinner where I met the love of my life, Julie Convissor. In 1981 Ron was best man at our wedding. We remained close friends until we both retired and resettled in the USA. Julie and I visited the Logans twice in New Jersey and I stayed in touch by phone nearly every Sunday evening. He always opened with "Hi Partner!" and closed by saying "Give a big hug to my ladies" referring to Julie and our four daughters. I will remember how much in love he was with Hy and how proud he was of his two children Angie and Mark. All the Carmichael ladies and I will miss him very much. He was a true friend for all the thirtysome years we knew each other.

I knew Ron in UNDP during the 60s. He was a wonderful colleague...I Still have a cartoon he re-drew for me as my original was getting worn out. We also shared stories about taxes when both of us volunteered as tax aides for AARP during the tax season. Truly a good person...we are poorer losing him.

My dear cousin Ronald was one of my favorite cousins in the whole wide world! He taught me so much as my firsts in my life! He and Hy took me to Radio City as my maiden voyage. In addition, he exposed me to the 35 mml camera which I later purchased that led me to a fondness of photogrqphy . Additionally, he invited me for lunch at the New York location of the UN!!!!! It was there I learned to appreciate a red wine--Taylor Port-- I was visiting he and our family members when I was junior at Fisk Univerisity during the summer vacation.
I also remember visiting Ron and Hy while they were located in Austria--what a great trip especially going around with my cousin Mark and friends( Angela was attending Colgate University at this time). Ronald told me that he named my cousin "Angela" after me,!! What an honor because my cousin Angela is a remarkable young woman!
I am truly missing my great cousin who was also a giant in my life!
