Obituary of Edmund J. Mitchell

Monroe Township Mr. Edmund J. Mitchell died peacefully on Tuesday August 30, 2011 at his home in Rossmoor, Monroe Twp. He was 82 years old. Mr. Mitchell was born in Cranford and was raised in Rahway. As an adult, he lived in Metuchen and North Brunswick before moving to Rossmoor, Monroe Twp. in 1998. He enlisted in the US Navel Reserves and later served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a grocery store manager for 47 years and worked for A&P and Shop-Rite during his career. He was the former president and treasurer for the Rossmoor Kiwanis Club, volunteered for Meals-On-Wheels, was a member of the Rossmoor mens golf club, member of emerald society and volunteered much of his time with the food bank. He was also formerly the mutual director at Rossmoor. He was an avid Yankees, Giants, and Rutgers College football fan, and enjoyed playing golf. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Violet (Balas) Mitchell of Rossmoor, Monroe Twp, his daughter, Susan Fox and her husband Garry of West Windsor, two sons, Scott Mitchell and his wife Kathleen of Long Valley, and Gary Mitchell and his wife Sharon of Barto, PA, three sisters, Shirley Tengi and her husband Frank of Madison, Jane Hansen of Midlothian, VA, and Bettyanne Gibson of Mesa, AZ, and six grandchildren, Jeffrey and his wife Lindsay, Michael, Andrew, Jessica, Madison, and Scotty. A memorial gathering will be 3-4pm on Saturday September 3, 2011 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. A memorial service will follow the gathering at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rossmoor Kiwanis Food Pantry Attn. Walter Murphy, 342A Narragansett Lane, Monroe Twp, NJ 08831.
