Obituary of Gioacchino 'Jack' Acampora

Gioacchino 'Jack' Acampora died on Sunday August 14, 2016 at his home in Clearbrook, Monroe Twp. He was 93 years old. Mr. Acampora was born and raised in Naples, Italy. He came to the US in 1956 and settled in Staten Island, NY. He lived in Old Bridge for 15 years before moving to Clearbrook, Monroe Twp. in 2015. He served in the Italian Navy during WWII and was a labor worker for Union Local 731 in New York City. While working for the union, he was involved in the construction of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. He was an avid soccer fan and was a referee for some time while living in Italy. He was a foodie and enjoyed making homemade wine.
He was predeceased by his son, Vincent Acampora in 2015.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lucy (Iaizzo) Acampora of Clearbrook, Monroe Twp., his son, John Acampora and his wife Mary of Monroe Twp., his daughter, Gina Acampora of Old Bridge, three grandchildren, John Acampora, Nicole Acampora, and Dina Acampora-Irianne, three great grandchildren, Jacqueline, Nicholas, and Vincenzo, two brothers, one sister, and many other extended family members.
Visitation will be from 9:00am to 11:00am on Tuesday August 16, 2016 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of the visitation at 11:00am from the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be 11:30am at St. James the Less RC Church, Jamesburg, followed by Interment in the parish cemetery, Monroe Twp.
