Thomas J. Brown, Sr. – Monroe Township, NJ
Thomas J. Brown, Sr., 86, died on Saturday September 19, 2015 at his residence in Monroe Township, NJ. Thomas was born in Richmond, VA., and resided in the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn before moving to Monroe Township, NJ two years ago.
Thomas was the first African American to be employed by National Shoe Sales. He was also employed by General Motors and he finished his career at Eneslow Shoes as a Pedorthic Sales Associate, retiring in 2010. Thomas played baseball in the Negro National League for the Kansas City Monarchs. He loved baseball and fishing and was a dedicated New York Yankees fan. Thomas proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Thomas is preceded in death by his son Thomas Jr. (1992) and his sister Beatrice Miller (2009).
Thomas is survived by his wife Gina Ward of Monroe Township, NJ, his son Kevin Brown and his wife Paulette of Las Vegas, NV., three grandchildren: Koppel Brown, Nicole Brown-Leaks, Kevin Brown, Jr., six great grandchildren: Kimani, Charles, Chelsea, Andrea, Zoey and Clint. Also surviving is Thomas's former wife Doris Brown of Jamaica Queens, NY, his favorite buddy Jordan Prince of NJ and his mother-in-law Gloria Ward.
Visitation will be from 9am – 12pm on Saturday September 26, 2015 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. – 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 – 732-521-0555 –Funeral services will begin at 12pm following the visitation. Cremation is private.
