Sara Ann Buckelew Olsen, 66, of Millstone Township, NJ died at her home on Wednesday September 5, 2012 following a six year battle with cancer.
Surviving are her husband, John Olsen, brother Paul Buckelew and his wife Carolyn of Old Bridge, sister Frances Buckelew of Manalapan, niece Heather Felder and her husband Calvin and their two children:, Ryan and her god daughter Samantha all of Richmond, VA., two nephews: Christopher Buckelew of Monroe Twp., and Thomas Buckelew and his wife Amy and their daughter Emma of Bridgewater, NJ, a sister in law Carol of Monroe Twp.
Sara is predeceased by her parents F. Truman Buckelew and Anna D. and a brother Martin "Buck" Buckelew (2010).
Sara retired from the Middlesex County Board of Social Services where she had worked in various positions, retiring as Senior Investigator in 2002. Sara was a proud and active member of CWA Local 1082 while employed at the Board, serving as steward, negotiator and treasurer.
Sara had a nurturing spirit coupled with a love of books and music. She played flute and piano as a child, but discovered her true love of the harp as an adult. She was a member of the Philadelphia Harp Chapter of the American Harp Society and performed and taught for over 25 years. Sara loved to volunteer as a music practitioner at Centra State Hospital having completed Music for Healing and Transition Course of Study. She enjoyed travelling the halls playing for distressed and ill patients and staff.
Sara had been a student and teacher of Tai Chi Chuan and Moulan Fan form at Andy Lee's Tai Chi Chuan Center of NJ. She achieved a level three ranking of the International Yang Tai Chi Association. She was also a member of the Labyrinth Society. Sara was an active volunteer, health permitting, at the Kateri Environmental Center in Wickatunk.
Visitation will be Friday September 7th from 2-4 & 7 until the beginning of Remembrances at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home – 205 Rhode Hall Rd – Monroe Twp., NJ. A graveside service and interment will take place at Old Tennent Cemetery – Manalapan - on Saturday September 8th at 11am.
