Obituary of Antonio J. Toto
Antonio J. Toto “Tony” was born on December 9, 1934 in Jackson Heights, NY, where he lived until two years of age. He and his family moved to East Brunswick, NJ. where they farmed for many years. He was a graduate of South River High School, where he met his beloved wife Irene, and were married for nearly 65 years. He was a gifted football player in high school and then attended the Pennington Prep School. He was awarded a scholarship to play football at the University of Delaware where he was a Little All American and inducted into the University of Delaware Athletic Hall of Fame. He later received his Master's Degree from Seton Hall University.
In 1959 he served in the United States Army in San Antonio, Texas, where he became a 2nd Lieutenant. After the Army, he became a science teacher in East Brunswick, NJ and later the Head Football Coach and Guidance Counselor and Science teacher at South Brunswick High School. Later in his career, he became a successful business owner of Toto Brothers, Inc., Madison Auto Supply and Bulldog Fisheries and several real estate investments.
Tony was active in many organizations which included The South River Lions Club, The Bill Denny Chapter, The Italian American Club and the Knights of Columbus. As an avid golfer, he was a member of Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Twp., and Tamarack Mens Golf Association in East Brunswick and the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America. Antonio had a thirst for knowledge, history and reading, and continued to do his daily newspaper puzzles until right before he passed. In retirement, he enjoyed gardening and crafting in his self-made garage workshop, especially woodworking and making birdhouses. He loved to travel, spend time in Sanibel Island, FL, but his most beloved destination was the beach house in Seaside Park, NJ where he welcomed family and friends with open arms.
Tony and Irene were blessed with five children-Thomas and his wife Kate of Seaside Park, Teresa Moriarty and her husband Brian of Madison, Debbie and her husband Pete of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Antonio and his wife Cathy of East Brunswick, and Walter and his wife Melissa Van Dyke of Summit. Tony had eleven grandchildren-TJ Toto and his wife Allison, Kaitlyn Keiper and her husband Chris, Matthew Toto, Emma Witko and her husband Paul, Rachel Teza and her husband Gustavo, Karly Toto, Charlotte Moriarty, Katherine Toto, Thomas Diffendal, Elizabeth Toto and Trevor Toto. Additionally, he had four great grandchildren-William, Mara, Amelia and Taylor.
Tony was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Irene Koziatek Toto and his parents Antonio and Caroline Toto, his siblings, Ralph Toto, Joseph Toto, Mafalda Nervegna, Louis Toto and Blasé Toto.
Tony was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who always put his family first. He never left a visit with his grandchildren without expressing some profound words of wisdom and guidance. He was a very hard worker who aspired to leave a legacy of strong family values and work ethic to his family.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 4 pm until 8 pm and Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 8:45 am until 9:15 am at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc., 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Township, NJ. Funeral services will begin at 9:15 am on Wednesday from the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Old Bridge, NJ followed by Entombment in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, South Brunswick Twp.
