Obituary of Edward G. Hess

Edward George Hess “aka Rebel”, age 72, of Monroe Township, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on July 6, 2023 with his wife and family by his side.   Ed fought a courageous battle with lung cancer and what a fight he gave for 3 blessed years.  He never gave up until the Lord called him home.

Ed was born in Wilmington, DE on Feb 21, 1951.  He graduated from Wilmington High School in 1969 and, yes, he was a participant at the Woodstock Festival!  Ed studied computer science at Delaware Tech and began his IT career as a computer operator at WTCB.  He then worked as a programmer with Philip Morris and transitioned to ISSC as a database specialist with marks of excellence.  After ISSC, Ed’s career took him to Pathmark Stores, in charge of quality assurance.  His final working relationship was with IBM Global Services as a senior program analyst from Nov 1991 until Oct 2008. 

After his retirement, Ed chose to enjoy the rest of his life traveling with his wife, Janice, and enjoying leisure time in the back yard with his tribe of dogs.  Then came the days of fishing with his wife and dearest friends.  Oh, the stories!   Please, let us not forget his passion for gardening…always an amazing garden!  A dear friend renamed our garden “Jurassic Park”.   Eddie, the Rebel, had the green thumb!  Sharing good times with family and friends was important to him.  Ed was proud to be a Son of the American Legion, Post 65, Metuchen, NJ.  Never forget Ed’s favorite saying: When you’re in a hole, quit digging.

Ed is predeceased by his parents, Edward V. Hess and Jeanie S. Hess, mother-in-law, Marjorie Warren, and brother-in-law, Roy Jackson.  Surviving is his wife of 37 years, Janice, his brother, Vincent Hess (Sue), nephews Vinnie Hess (Trish) and Nick Hess, niece Hailey Hess, sister-in-law Debbie Jackson, niece Paige Jackson, nephew Christopher Jackson, brother-in-law Dennis Warren (Dawn), nephew Jason Warren (Jessica), nephew Nicholas Warren, niece Ryan Warren, sister-in-law Lynn Dickson (Dean), niece Erin Schultz (Ryan), and two fur babies, Bella and Bailey.  Ed also leaves behind many friends.

A celebration of Ed’s marvelous life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 6PM at Forsgate Country Club, 375 Forsgate Dr., Monroe Township, NJ 08831.
