Obituary of Maria N. Costales

Maria “Nereida” Costales was a caring and beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She went to be with the Lord on June 4, 2023 at 11:11 AM. She was 87 years old.

She was one of four sisters, born to Manuela and Sixto Viera on February 27, 1936 in Havana, Cuba. After graduating from high school, she got married to Filiberto Costales and became a homemaker. She had her first two children, Cary and Ileana. She later came to the United States with her husband in 1966. Five years later, they had their third child, Philip while residing in Union City, New Jersey. She became employed with Ralph Lauren as a seamstress and worked there for 17 years. She retired at the age of 62 and returned to being a homemaker. She and her husband, moved down to South River, New Jersey then finally to Monroe Township in 2002.

Maria loved spending her time sewing and being with her family, which was her pride and joy. She was such a good hearted, loving person. The most beautiful soul with not one bad bone in her body. She never had one negative thing to say about anyone or anything. We could not have asked for a better mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She will reside with all of us forever and be our guardian angel. Our angel will be remembered by her children, Ileana, Cary and Philip. Along with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Justin, Brianna, Michele, Ryan, Kevin, Christoper, Kaitlyn, Brennon, Ethan and Mia. She is predeceased by her two sisters, Aleida and Hilda. Her spirit will live on through all of us and through her last living sister, Digna and her loving husband, Filiberto. 

Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday June 7, 2023 and 8:30-9:15 am on Thursday June 8, 2023 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. - 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ  08831 - 732-521-0555.  Funeral services will begin at 9:15 am on Thursday from the funeral home.  A funeral liturgy will be 10:00 am at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church - 185 Applegarth Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ  08831 followed by entombment in Frost Woods Memorial Park - East Brunswick.
