Obituary of William G. Kowalczyk, Sr.
William “Whitey” Kowalczyk, 72, passed away on Monday June 6, 2022 at his home surrounded by loving family. Whitey was born June 13, 1949 in Newark New Jersey. After graduating Hillside High School in 1967, he went to New York State University where he earned his Associates Degree in Horticulture. Whitey enlisted in the United States Army Guard and was honorably discharged in 1972 as a Second Lieutenant.
In 1973, Whitey entered the Essex County Police Academy. Upon graduation he served on the Irvington Police Department as a K-9 officer. He transferred to the Hillside Police Dept where he retired in 1998 as a Lieutenant.
After retiring from the police department, Whitey purchased a legend race car and loved racing every weekend. He also loved going to the Daytona and Indianapolis 500 races.
He enjoyed operating his private businesses while on the police department and in retirement. In 2000, he was an armed driver for Prudential until he completely retired in 2010.
Whitey loved watching the Yankees, having parties, setting up trains and villages at Christmas time, going down the shore every year and going to Disney every other year with all of our children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his loving wife Barbara, his children William Kowalczyk Jr., Joseph Russo, Lisa Parone and Larry Shankle, Vincent and Maria Russo and our six grandchildren; Larisa, Vincenzo, Vito, Siera, Nicole, Larry and many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be 5-8 pm on Wednesday June 8, 2022 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. - 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831. A funeral liturgy will be 10:00 am on Thursday June 9, 2022 at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church - 185 Applegarth Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 followed by a private cremation.
