Obituary of Sean Dougherty

Please share a memory of Sean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sean Dougherty

Sean grew up in Rahway, NJ where he graduated High School. He then moved
with his mother Regina, a Rahway Hospital Nurse, to her new home in Toms
River, NJ directly on Barnegat Bay.

U.S. Army service and Guerilla Warfare training came next during the
Vietnam war and he was sent to serve in Germany.

Sean knew after the service he wanted to become a police officer. Waiting
for notification of police testing, Sean an excellent swimmer became an
ocean lifeguard in Lavallette, NJ to stay in shape.

Many police departments had limited openings and many applicants.  A nurse
that Sean grew up with and who also worked with his mother told her that
East Brunswick, NJ Police Department where she lived was hiring police
officers.  After many test phases, Sean was selected for one of the three job
openings and was then sent to the NJ State Police Academy in Sea Girt, NJ for training.

After graduating, Sean, like most other police officers, was assigned to the
patrol division.  5 years later Sean's dream came true and he was selected
to join the Detective Bureau.

Along the way, one of the bureau detectives was putting together a cruise
group and asked Sean to join.  Little did he know that this would be the
inspiration for a new second career when he retired from the force.  When
that day came with the help of his wife Cheryl they opened GalaxSea
Cruises and Tours on Route 18 in East Brunswick, NJ.

During those many successful years representing all major cruise lines
worldwide, all major land tour operators and becoming an Authorized Disney
Vacation Planning Agency, the company grew into an internet  company with
a voice that it is today.

The couple has traveled the entire world together and shared countless
wonderful memories along the way!

They eventually moved from East Brunswick where Cheryl grew up and they
both lived for many years in Monroe Township, NJ in the Stonebridge
Community.

Sean was a member of the Stonebridge Men’s Club, Stonebridge Veterans Club
and The Knights of Columbus 4th  degree at Nativity of our Lord Church in
Monroe Township, NJ.

Sean is predeceased by his parents and his sister-in-law Marian Pope Melita.
He is survived by his wife Anne Cheryl Dougherty, and his brother-in-law
Robert Melita, A niece Jessica, her husband Jason, and their children Arthur and Ethan; a
nephew David, his wife Mackenzie, and their children Parker and Nolan.
