Obituary of George A. Mayer
George A. Mayer, 80, passed away at his home in Monroe Township on Wednesday, April 20, 2022.
George was born in Harlem in the upper west side of New York City to Dr. Hymen Mayer and his wife Pearl. He was raised however in Hightstown and spent most of his life in the Jamesburg and Monroe area where he was an early and lifelong contributor to the development and growth of both communities.
George attended college at Rutgers University and Eastern New Mexico University, where he received his B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Biology.
Following George’s graduation from college in New Mexico, he met and married his loving wife of 41 years, Jimmie Lawanda Mayer. Together they spent time in Arkansas where George then entered the United States Air Force honorably serving his country from 1964 until 1970. During his time in the Airforce, the couple moved back to his home state of New Jersey, settling down in Jamesburg in the mid-1960s before moving to Monroe in 1976 where they raised three children before her passing in 2004.
As a lifetime outdoorsman and avid hunter, George mentored many of the youth in the Jamesburg & Monroe communities on the benefits, safety, life skills, and general enjoyment of recreational hunting and appreciation for the sport. He was also a founding and lifetime member of the Mallard Gun Club in Monroe and served as its treasurer and financial advisor for more than 40 years. George was also a founding and lifetime member of the Jamesburg Elks Lodge #2180 where he served as treasurer and financial adviser to the Elks for nearly 35+ years as well as an Elk’s officer in many capacities. George was also the acting President of the Hightstown High School Alumni Association for those 50 years or more post-graduation.
As a youth, George aspired to one day go to medical school, but in the late 1960s, he found his life’s passion and became a stockbroker and financial advisor.
For 54+ years, George supported thousands of clients and families as a financial advisor with major wall street firms of E.F. Hutton, Shearson Lehman, and finally Morgan Stanley until his retirement in 2021 at the age of 80. During that tenured career, he guided, advised, and mentored numerous younger financial advisors entering the field on the complexities of the business and the art of stock charting and trending techniques which was his core specialty.
He was predeceased by his wife Jimmie Lawanda, as well as his daughter in law Laura Mayer.
George is survived by his long-time companion of nearly 18 years, and by his children; John Mayer & his wife Diane of Jupiter FL., Rick Mayer, and his close companion Cathy of Greenfield, PA., and Tammie (Mayer) Caracozza and her husband Scott of Maricopa, AZ. George is also survived by his brother, Dr. Daniel Mayer & his wife Janet of Medina OH. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Ethan Mayer, Dominic Caracozza, and Anthony Caracozza. He also leaves behind a niece and nephew, Rachel (Mayer) Hunter and her husband Ryan of Medina, OH, and Dr. Jason Mayer and his wife Kelly of Ft. Collins Co.
