Obituary of Adelina (Deli) Rodriguez
Adelina Rodriguez, 86, of Somerset passed away on April 11, 2022 in Somerset, NJ from colon cancer after a brief illness.
Adelina, known as Deli by those around her, was born in Vedado, Cuba to Amadora and Jose Permuy on May 12, 1935. She married Jorge Rodriguez on November 30, 1957 in Havana, Cuba. In 1962, she immigrated from Cuba to the United States and would come to settle down in Central New Jersey, which is where she would raise her family. She continued her education and worked as a translator and later as an administrative assistant for women’s studies at Rutgers University for over 25 years. In her later years, and after retirement, she and her husband, Jorge, became avid travelers going on trips and cruises all around the world including Mexico, Panama Canal, Europe, and across the United States. In addition, to travel she was also a generous supporter of many charities including St. Jude, The Humane Society of the United States, Sgt. Peppers Rescue in Aruba, American Cancer Society, and many others.
Adelina was a devoted wife, selfless mother, and loving grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Jorge Rodriguez, and her 3 children, Anna, Lourdes, and George. She is also survived by her grandchildren Amanda, Alexa, Marissa, Eddie, and George as well as 2 great grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be 11:00 am - 1:00 pm on Wednesday April 20, 2022 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. - 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831. A catholic blessing will be 1:00 pm at the conclusion of the gathering followed by inurnment in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum - 840 Cranbury South River Rd., Jamesburg, NJ 08831.
