Bernice Szmyd, 92, of South River, passed away on Monday April 4, 2022 at Care One of East Brunswick. 

Bernice was born and raised in Helmetta and resided in South River for most of her life.  She was an active parishioner of St. Mary of Ostrabrama RC Church in South River and a member of the Altar Rosary Society.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Szmyd (1992), her daughter, Sandra DeVoe (1999) and her son, Stanley Szmyd, Jr. (2012).  

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Judy Szmyd of Monroe Twp., her brother, Robert Godlewski of Colorado, 6 grandchildren: Jaci Szmyd, Stanley F. Szmyd III and his wife Roxanne Gardner, Dawn Adams, Gary Brown and his wife Kelly, William DeVoe and Michelle Owens and her husband Terry Moles and 11 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 8:00 am - 9:15 am on Monday April 18, 2022 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. - 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ  08831.  Funeral services will begin at 9:15 am from the funeral home.  A funeral liturgy will be 10:00 am at St. Mary of Ostrabrama RC Church - 30 Jackson St., South River, NJ  08882 followed by interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Monroe Twp.
