Obituary of Glenn Hubert Reed

Glenn H. Reed passed away at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick on March 23, 2022, at the age of 89. 
Glenn was born in Trevorton, Pennsylvania to Clarence and Mary (Harris) Reed on March 8, 1933. He grew up in the Pennsylvania coal region and graduated from Trevorton High School in 1951. After high school Glenn enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving during both the Korean War and during peace time in the 9th Radio Relay Squad until he was honorably discharged in 1960.
While still in service, Glenn began attending college and received his Bachelors of Science in Education degree in 1959 in the field of english and social studies from The State Teacher’s College in Bloomsburg, PA. Soon after Glenn began his teaching career in Springville, NY and in 1966 moved to New Jersey where he became a secondary school English and Social Studies teacher in the Franklin Township (Somerset) school system. At the same time he earned Master’s Degrees in both English and Library Science from Rutgers University. Not long after Glenn became head librarian at Franklin Township High School and remained at that position until his retirement in 1996.
In 1967, while they were both working at Franklin Township High School, he met and married his dear wife of fifty-three years Carol Jean Bell. Together they raised their three children, first living in Hightstown and then eventually settling into Monroe Township in 1977. 
Glenn was a time piece collector and a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. An avid flea market goer, Glenn could be found pursuing collecting interests at such markets as the Golden Nugget in Lambertville and Columbus Outdoor Flea Market in Columbus. 
Glenn was predeceased by his wife Carol Jean as well his parents, Clarence, and Mary (Harris) Reed, a sister, Gloria Roberts, and a brother, Ivan H. Reed.
Glenn is survived by his three children and two daughter-in-laws: Thomas Edwin and Allison Reed of Freehold, Martin Glenn and Susan Reed of Milltown, and Mary Ann Bell Reed of Monroe Township. He was also a loving grandfather and is survived his four grandchildren – Jack, Haidyn, Matthew and Chloe. He is also survived by his sister, Linda R. Chubb of Mechanicsburg, PA.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home Inc., 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe Twp., NJ 08831. A catholic blessing will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment of cremated remains will be held at 12:00 pm at Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, 840 Cranbury Road, South Brunswick, NJ
