Obituary of Richard D. Allen, Sr.

Richard David Allen, Sr., 83, passed away Saturday December 18, 2021 at his home in Monroe Twp, NJ.  Richard was born in New Brunswick and was raised in Highland Park where he went to high school.  There, he met his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara Grover Allen. They married and raised their 5 children in Edison, moved on to Jamesburg then Seaside Park before settling in Monroe Twp.  Richard had a long working life working multiple jobs before retiring from Union Carbide in 1997. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Theirs was a story book romance from the time they met. Together they created a beautiful, committed, loving family which was his pride and joy. He was happiest when surround by his family, helping and offering his advice. He loved the shore and long drives with his wife. They were inseparable and were always holding hands. He also had a love of classic and antique cars. He was respected and admired by all who knew him, and he was an exceptional, caring soul.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Margaret Allen, his sister Margie, his brother Bob, his grandson David Jr., his son-in-law Kenneth Forman and his godson Kyle Giaquinto.

He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, his sister Patricia Giaquinto and husband Ben, his sister-in-law Mary Allen, his 5 children:  Louise Govlick and her husband George, Barbara Monticello and her husband Anthony, Richard Allen Jr. and Maria Prouflis, Linda Forman and David Allen and his wife Sally.  He is also survived by 10 grandchildren:  Cathy Maybin, Richard Allen III, Andrew Allen and his wife Erica, Matthew Allen and his wife Lauren, Stephen Allen, Ashley Gully and her husband Nick, Dawn Govlick, Kenneth Forman Jr. and his fiancé Kelly, Eric Monticello and his fiancé Heather and Mackenzie Forman. He was also blessed with 2 great granddaughters: Emerie and Callie.

Visitation will be 2-5 pm on Sunday December 26, 2021 and 10-11 am on Monday December 27, 2021 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. – 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ  08831 – 732-521-0555.  A Catholic blessing will be 11 am on Monday at the funeral home followed by entombment in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum – South Brunswick.
