Obituary of Catherine K Hurley

Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Catherine K. Hurley, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Monroe Township on December 6, 2021.

Catherine was born in Staten Island, New York to Augustus and Elizabeth Klee. Catherine was one of five siblings raised on Staten Island, and it is where she also met her husband, Joseph (Joe). Shortly after marrying, they moved to New Brunswick, NJ – and then settled in Milltown. Catherine and Joseph had six children, Robert, Karen, Barbara, Timothy, Brian and Thomas and raised their children in Milltown for 32 years. Joe and Catherine moved to Rossmoor in Monroe Township in 1987.

Catherine worked in Manhattan during and after World War II.  After moving to New Jersey and beginning her family, Catherine was active in church and school activities for many years, as well as volunteering at Happiness is Camping, a free camp for children with cancer. Catherine also served as a Eucharistic minister at Nativity of Our Lord Church in Monroe Township.

She was an active sports enthusiast, bowling and golfing into her late 80s. When her own participation in sports came to a close, she continued to faithfully follow her beloved Yankees.

Catherine is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph (2004), and two sons, Robert and Thomas.

Catherine is survived by four children, Karen Kidney and her husband Mickey of East Brunswick, NJ; Barbara Yetman and her husband Ronald of Yardley, PA; Timothy Hurley and his wife Annette of West Long Branch, NJ; Brian Hurley and his wife Julie Anbender of Washington, DC; and her sister, Jane Klee of Monroe Township.

She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Robert Kidney, Erin Iwicki and husband Brett, Tara Hodum and her husband Chris, Alison Kidney; Joseph Farrell and his wife Gianna, Michael, Julianne, Drew, Justin and Lauren Hurley, as well as two great grandchildren, Nathan and Tristan Hodum.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 10, 2021, from 4:00PM - 7:00 PM and a Catholic Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 11, 11:00 am, at Nativity of our Lord Parish, 185 Applegarth Road, Monroe Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Catherine’s name be made to her church, Nativity of Our Lord, https://www.nativitymonroe.org, or to Happiness is Camping, https://www.happinessiscamping.org, an organization where Catherine and Joe volunteered their time.

A private burial service for the family will follow the Funeral Mass.
