Obituary of Theresa Morrongiello

Please share a memory of Theresa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Theresa (Scavone) Morrongiello died Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Raritan Bay Hospital in Old Bridge. She was 87 years old. Terry was born in Queens, NY, before settling in South River in 1962, where she remained until she moved to Reformed Church Home in 2020.

She leaves behind her five children, Carol Angersbach and her husband, Charles, of McGaheysville, VA, Anthony Morrongiello and his wife, Abbe, of Franklin, MA, Matthew Morrongiello and his wife, Debra, of Hamilton, Joanne Manfre and her husband, Charles, of East Brunswick, and Christine Reilley and her husband, Kevin, of South River. She has four grandchildren, Charles J. Angersbach and his wife, Jill, of Pickerington, OH, Nicole Russell and her husband, Nathan, of Winchester, VA, Maxwell Morrongiello of Franklin, MA, and Joseph M. Morrongiello and his wife, Carlee, of Hamilton, NJ. She has six great-grandchildren, Luke and Jake Angersbach, and Benjamin, Evangeline, David, and Lucy Russell. Her seventh great-grandchild, Leo Morrongiello, was born July 21.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph F. Morrongiello earlier this year. She also was predeceased by her parents, Matteo and Giuseppa (Ingargiola) Scavone, and her siblings, Antoinette, Nina, and Andrew. She is survived by many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Terry will be remembered as a loving, caring, warm, and generous wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her children will remember her fondly as a devoted and fun-loving stay-at-home mom, and later a beloved “Grammy” and “GG.” Later in life, she held various administrative positions at J.C. Penney in East Brunswick, the South River Public Library, and the office of Dr. Howard A. Paul in North Brunswick.

She always had a smile on her face and loved engaging in cheerful conversations. Her husband said strangers would seek her out and share their life stories with her, all because she would simply smile at them!

She loved all kinds of music, and she loved to dance. She was the life of the party and made everyone around her laugh. Terry cooked legendary meals for all occasions -- from everyday dinners to large family gatherings and holidays. Those occasions will live on in her family’s memories as so special, and they look forward to keeping the traditions going, even though they will miss her tremendously.
