Obituary of Debbie Goldstein

Please share a memory of Debbie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Deborah Goldstein passed away after a relatively short bout with lung cancer at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick on Wednesday June 23, 2021.

Debbie was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and she attended Franklin K. Lane High school where she met her husband, Herbert. She attended college at Queens College and received a bachelor's degree in education.

After graduating from college, Debbie married Herbert on June 13, 1959, and they moved to the Detroit area where they lived for less than a year. They returned to New York and started their family by welcoming Greg and Dawn while in Hastings-on-Hudson. The family moved to California in 1976 and Debbie and Herbert moved back to New York City in 1983 where they stayed until settling in Monroe Township in 2006.

Debbie was an educator for most of her adult life. Working in both public and private schools only taking a break to raise her children. She continued working as a teacher until retiring in 1995. Debbie loved movies and the theater. She and Herbert would take in as many as three movies a week even going so far as to plan out the good movies to see. She loved ballet and tennis but took tennis very seriously as a player and even more so as a fan. Above all, Debbie loved animals. She loved her own pets dearly and was a supporter of animal rights and those groups moving that cause forward.

Debbie was pre-deceased by her parents, Pincus and Regina Grebel.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Herbert, her two children, Greg Goldstein and his wife Denise of Pine Brook, NJ, and daughter, Dawn Goldstein of Rancho Cucamonga, California. Debbie also is survived by her grandchildren, Zachary, Daniel, Norah, and Jonathan as well as a sister, Karen Putterman, and her husband Marc, of New York City.
