Obituary of Mary Peyton

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Mazie Peyton passed away peacefully on November 28, 2020 at her home in Manalapan, New Jersey. She was born on March 16, 1947 in Zag, Kentucky, the daughter of Cletis and Carma Peyton. Her sister, Gladys Trent, was like a mother to her since Mary lost her mother at a young age.

She married Clarence S. Benner in 1968, and they divorced in 1992. In August of 1993, after her children left home, she moved back to Kentucky to live near her sisters and continue her education. Mary moved to New Jersey in 2008 to be close to her family and especially her loving grandchildren.  She worked at Sylvania and Medomak Canning Company in Waldoboro, Maine and Reny's Department Store in Damariscotta, Maine. In Kentucky and New Jersey, Mary worked as a care giver.

She was a kind, strong, loving, and generous spirit and she had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. She was loved by so many.  She loved going to Bingo, playing games, especially cards, Scrabble and Yahtzee with family and friends. She enjoyed spending time at the ocean and one of her favorite pastimes was fishing. She also loved animals.

She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Leta McGhee and Ray Peyton.

She is survived by her son Edward Benner and his wife, Aimee Benner of Monroe Township, NJ; Her daughter Melissa Benner and her partner, Thomas Beck of Cabot, VT; Her grandchildren: Emma Benner, AJ Benner, and Bryce Benner; Her sisters: Gladys Trent, Morehead, KY, Dimple Murphy, Fairland, IN, Fern McKinney, Mount Sterling, KY and Nova Sommers, Indiana. Her brother-in-law Doyle McGhee of Tennessee.

Special thanks to her wonderful nurse, Stuart Frey, for helping Mary live a better quality of life.

In lieu of sending flowers, donations in her name can be made to a charity that serves animals.

A celebration of her life will be held for her family and friends some time in the future, after we are all able to gather together safely.
