Obituary of Bernard L. Armistead, Jr.

Bernard L. Armistead, Jr., 80, of Monroe Twp. passed away on Tuesday October 27, 2020 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.  Bernard was born and raised in Jersey City where he met the love of his life, Lucille.  He lived for many years in Somerset where he raised his family before moving to The Ponds in Monroe Twp. in 1998.  He was a dedicated employee for almost 50 years at Wellen Oil/Oil City in Jersey City until his retirement in 2004.  Bernard was a parishioner of St. James the Less RC Church in Jamesburg where he was both an usher and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was an avid fisherman, loved playing billiards, reading and was very active in his community at The Ponds where he participated in numerous activities and clubs.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lucille Armistead of Monroe Twp., four sons: Steven Armistead and his husband, Michael Gomez of Tampa, FL, Richard Armistead and his wife Michelle of Monroe Twp., Donald Armistead of Oakland, CA and David Armistead of North Brunswick and his granddaughter, Danielle Armistead of Toms River.

Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday, November 1, 2020 and from 8:30am to 9:30am on Monday, November 2, 2020 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831.  Funeral services will begin at 9:30am on Monday from the funeral home.  A funeral liturgy will be 10:00am at St. James the Less RC Church, 36 Lincoln Ave., Jamesburg, NJ with Interment to follow in St. James the Less parish cemetery, Monroe Twp.  To watch the funeral liturgy through live stream, please visit www.stjamesthelesschurch.org and click Mass-Live Stream.
