Obituary of John A. McCarthy
John (Jack) McCarthy passed away at home on June 13, 2020 at the age of 93.
He was born on January 29, 1927 in the Bronx New, York to John and Ethel McCarthy and was later raised in West Orange, New Jersey
Jack was a veteran of the United States Navy during world war two. Jack received many medals of honorable distinction including 4 bronze stars. Jack was then employed by AT&T (Western Electric) as a supervisor of telephone equipment installation, retiring in 1984. He later became a consultant for Kostic & Co. dismantling that same equipment.
Jack moved to Old Bridge Township and then settled in East Brunswick to raise his family. Jack then lived in Rossmoor in Monroe Township until finally calling Parker at Monroe his home for the last five years. He was an active parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Old Bridge.
Jack enjoyed serving the community and giving back, volunteering in the Rossmoor food pantry, the Mr. Fix it program and many other organizations. In 2006 Jack was named citizen of year of the Kiwanis Club of Rossmoor.
He enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams, the New York Yankees, and the New York Jets. Jack was also an avid bowler and Bocce player.
Jack was predeceased by his wife Catherine (Cheney), his son Kevin and his longtime partner Gloria Blake.
He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Baylis, two sons, John McCarthy and his partner Patricia Meerleveld and Dennis McCarthy. He is also survived by a son in law Randal Baylis
Jack will also be missed by his three grandchildren, Kristine Campanale (Casey), Brian Baylis, Sasha McCarthy, and his great granddaughter Hazel Campanale.
Visitation will be 3-7pm on Tuesday June 16, 2020 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. - 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831. Funeral services will begin at 9:45am on Wednesday June 17, 2020 from the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be 10:30am on Wednesday at St. Thomas the Apostle RC Church, 333 NJ-18, Old Bridge, NJ 08857 followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Ave, East Hanover, NJ 07936.
