John T. Wasenda 1938 - 2020

John Wasenda, age 82, died peacefully after an ongoing illness, on Friday, June 12, 2020 at his home in East Windsor, New Jersey.  John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and member of the Nativity of Our Lord Church, in Monroe Township, New Jersey.

Born on June 4, 1938 in New York, New York to William & Mary Wasenda, as an only child, he lived his childhood in New Brunswick, New Jersey and eventually moved to Bound Brook, New Jersey where he became an accomplished Student and Baseball Player.

After high school, John attended Rider College, graduating spring, 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He worked in various accounting firms until he earned his status of Certified Public Accountant in 1968.

During this time, he was introduced, through his best friend, to Lenora (Lolly) Kolankiewicz.  John and Lolly married two years later on May 16, 1964 at Corpus Christi Church in South River, New Jersey. Following marriage, they moved to North Brunswick, New Jersey and had their first child, David, in 1968 followed by their daughter, Suzanne in 1969.  They raised ‘Dave’ and ‘Suzi’ in the same home throughout their high school days, took family trips every year and always participated in their activities.  John and Lolly eventually moved to Monroe Township in 1995 where they enjoyed life on the golf course, until 2005 when they moved to their current home in Riviera at East Windsor.

John spent more than 40 years of his life working to support his family in the Hospital Industry beginning at Middlesex Hospital (now RWJ University Hospital) and Freehold Hospital (now CentraState Medical Center) until 1972. He would transfer to Bayonne Hospital (now Bayonne Medical Center) and was promoted to Chief Financial Officer, spending 20 successful years, until his departure in 1992.  John concluded his career as Chief Financial Officer at East Orange General Hospital prior to retiring in 2000.

Upon retirement he enjoyed life to the fullest.  His many vacations and cruises traveling to the Caribbean and Europe with Lolly were some of his favorite times along with caring for their dog, Sparky. For leisure and summer activity, John cherished playing golf with friends at various local golf courses as well as washing and caring for his cars.  During the last few years, you could find him with his friends at Panera Bread talking sports and world events.

John will be remembered for his calm, easy going demeanor, always putting others first and providing true friendship to all who were close to him. He never complained about any of his problems, however, was the first to listen and offer advice to others.  His quick wit, good natured humor and thoughtfulness were qualities that will leave a lasting impression on family and friends alike.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lolly; children, Dave and his wife Melissa of Millstone Township, New Jersey and Suzanne (Kelly) and her husband David Kelly of Montgomery, New Jersey; grandchildren Camryn (Kelly), Abygale & Lucas (Wasenda).

Out of respect and concern for public health, funeral services, including Entombment in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, are to be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers and for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to: Nativity of Our Lord Church, 185 Applegarth Road, Monroe Township, New Jersey 08831.
