Obituary of Grace E. Wetzel

Grace Ellen Wetzel (Emery) passed away on Saturday May 16, 2020 at her residence in Jamesburg with her loving family by her side. She courageously fought to the end, her second battle with breast cancer.

Grace was born in New York and raised in Garwood, NJ.  She graduated from Arthur L Johnson Regional High School, Clark, NJ, 1964.  She graduated from St. Peter’s Nursing School, 1967.  After graduating, as a registered nurse, she furthered her career as a Certified Occupational Health Nurse-Specialist.  During employment with the NY Times, she served a 6-year term on the American Board of COHN.  She assisted many employees with health and urgent medical needs, especially during 9-11. Grace retired from the NY Times, 2007. 

Grace was predeceased by her parents George and Alice Emery; her sister in laws: Judith Stevenson and Eleanor Cross. 

Grace was married to her best friend and love of her life, Henry M. Wetzel Jr. for 52 years.  They were together for 54 years.  Grace and Henry shared an unconditional love and support for each other.  He was the road and she was his map.  They guided each other through a life full of adventures, challenges, hard work, and happiness.

Grace was a proud mother and adored her two daughters, Sherry Ann Eib and her husband, Walter, and Charlea Nicole Wetzel.  She found fulfillment in being a proud and supportive grandmother to Jessica Grace Eib and her husband, Jesse, and Joshua Henry Eib.  Grace leaves behind a sister, Lovis Noyce; sister in law, Terri Hermann and her husband, Dennis; brother in law, Robert Stevenson and his wife, Mary Lou; goddaughter, Megan Pantoja; godson, Jordan Fleming, and many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

Grace was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, godmother, and friend.  She enjoyed being with family and friends, spending time at her home in Florida, traveling, arts and crafts, reading, and trips to the casinos to play the poker slots machines.

Grace knew the importance of giving back to her local community in Jamesburg.  She served on the Jamesburg Library Board of Trustees for 19 years.  Grace was a lifetime member, The Friends of the Jamesburg Public Library. She volunteered at the Deacon’s Food Pantry, The Presbyterian Church, Jamesburg and was an honorable member of the American Legion’s Auxiliary Star Post 127.  Grace was a devout Roman Catholic, attended mass at St. James the Less, Jamesburg. She became a certified CCD teacher from Georgian Court College and taught CCD in the 1970s and 1980s.
