Anthony Sofo, Jr passed away on April 27, 2020. He was 73 years old. Born on December 26, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Anthony and Grace (Addabbo) Sofo. Anthony was the youngest of three, adored by his sisters Angie and Lois. He graduated from Sheepshead Bay High School and went on to Trade School where he became an auto mechanic. He was passionate about cars and especially loved his Electric Blue ’67 Pontiac GTO. After many years in the auto industry, he opened his business, Island Car Spa and Amboy Tire Center, where he became a fixture in his Staten Island community. He was known by many for his gentle and kind way.
Most notably, Anthony will be remembered as a loving family man. He married his love, Phyllis (Giella) on a stormy day in 1971. The rain proved to be good luck as many blessings ensued. Together, they built their loving family with their three children AnnMarie Pierro (Paul), Melissa Johnson (Paul) and Anthony III (Jennifer). Anthony truly cherished this family. He put everyone before himself and often said “as long as my kids are happy.” His best times included being with his eight grandchildren Anthony, Jonathan, Reese, Jake, Christian, Anthony IV, Adriana and Nicholas. His wife, children and grandchildren are all his biggest fans. There was no greater source of pride for Anthony than his family, including numerous cousins with whom he had a special bond. Often regarded as “the best,” Anthony was everyone’s favorite Godfather, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin and Friend. To know him is to love him and he will be deeply missed by all.
