Ramanand Durga, born on January 6, 1943 to Raghoo Durga and Rosalind Jagmohan, in Palmyra Berbice-Corentyne, Guyana passed away on April 27, 2020 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, New Brunswick, New Jersey. He came to the United States for an education and to build a better life for himself and his family. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, a Master’s in Education from Columbia University in the City of New York, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Fordham University. His family looked up to him as a role model and mentor often seeking his advice and guidance. He was affectionately known for his outgoing, positive, and caring personality. He was always there to help his family in times of need. There was never a problem that he could not solve or fix because in his own words he “was a strong man” and a “master” at everything. He never allowed his physical handicaps limit his joys in life which were his construction work that he did on his house, cutting down trees or maintaining his property, or playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Indira Durga, Nadina Cryan (m. Timothy Cryan), Gary Durga (m. Maribel Durga), Karene Marchan (m. Carlos Marchan) and Davy Durga (m. Maddeleydis Durga). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chandini, Carrigan, Salina, Izana, Sirbhawn, Ian, and Tara and great grandchildren, Arjuna, Anjani, and Avani , and siblings, Callawatie Ramrup and Bramanand Durga.
