Obituary of Annette U Laino
A beautiful, loving and vivacious woman, Annette “Netty” Laino passed away a few weeks shy of her 87th birthday on April 27, 2020.
Born May 14, 1933 in Jersey City, New Jersey, she was the beloved mother of R.J. Laino, Carolyn Bachonski, and Gera Greenspan (Craig). She especially loved her role as “Gran” to her two grandchildren Gerard Creed and Erin Reed (Kyle) and two great-grandchildren Olivia and Andrew Reed. A proud sister, aunt and friend, she also leaves behind her sister Gloria Walsh, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Annette was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Caroline Torio, and her sisters Carol Fernandez and Marilyn Smith.
Netty was a lifelong Jersey resident and loved her home state. One of a kind, and larger than life, her smile, her warmth, her energy, her cooking, and her love for family and friends made a positive difference in the lives of many. Netty was a lifelong devotee of the arts. She was an avid reader and gifted in painting, interior design, and acting. She loved going to the theater -from Broadway and Lincoln Center to The Paper Mill Playhouse and everything in between. In the 1970’s she spent several years on stage performing in local community theater productions.
Annette had a fabulous sense of style –often sporting the latest designs before they became mainstream. She was a regular at Bloomie’s and Nordstrom’s – especially when her children or grandchildren had an upcoming birthday. Later in her career she co-founded and operated an upscale consignment boutique in Toms River, NJ. The store flourished until her retirement a decade later.
Most of all, Annette was treasured for her loving hugs, welcoming smile and the quality and quantity of her cooking. Italian food was her love language – and her unwavering insistence that every guest leave well fed (with leftovers) made her an icon with the younger generation.
A Memorial Service will be scheduled in the near future for friends and family to share in the celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Annette’s name to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation (Breast Cancer Research). Full arrangements were held under the direction of the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. - 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831.
