Helen (Lewandoski) Martiak, 93, passed away on Sunday April 26, 2020 at her son's residence in Monroe Twp. Helen was born and raised in Linden and moved to Newark in 1947. She finally settled in Short Hills where she lived for over 40 years. She was the owner/operator of West Side Tavern in Newark for 50 years.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Emil Martiak (2004), two sisters, Irene Szuba and Laura Antas.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Martiak and his wife Dorothy of Monroe Twp., her daughter, Janice Luftig and her husband Allan of Aberdeen, her sister, Audrey Foley and her husband Frank of South Carolina, four grandchildren: Nichole Valeyko and her husband Matthew, Stephen Martiak and his wife Kimberly, Brian Luftig and his wife Olivia and Michael Luftig and his fiance Annie Ackerman, six great grandchildren: Emilynn, Alexandra, Olivia, Christian, Max and Miles and her very dear friend, Millie Plesko of Union.
