Obituary of Edmund V. Torres

Please share a memory of Edmund to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Edmund V. Torres passed away on Sunday, April 12th 2020, at his home in Rossmoor, Monroe Township.  He was 96 years old.  Edmund was born and raised in Newark.  He later lived in Scotch Plains and Edison before moving to Rossmoor, Monroe Township in 1989.  He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII and was a sales representative for Carl Schaedel & Company, Inc. in West Caldwell for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1990.  He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus in St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church Council #1711 in Westfield and was an active parishioner at his home parish of Nativity of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church in Monroe Township.

Ed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be remembered for his dedication to his faith and his family, his selfless caring for others, his quick wit, his strength, and his kindness. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with his whole being and was ever-present in their lives. Whether it was cheering at their sporting events, participating in school activities, watching the Yankees together, or beating them at cornhole or cards, his love of life made every event, and every day, extra special. His absence leaves a void that cannot be filled and he will be missed more than words could ever say.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Mary (Griffin) Torres in 1990, and three siblings, Frances Torres, Marie Corley, and George Torres.

He is survived by four children, Mary-Pat Maciolek and her husband Perry of Howell, Mark Torres and his wife Brenda of Leesburg, VA, John Torres and his wife Robin of Henryville, PA, and MaryAnne Franzyshen and her husband Kenny of Toms River; eight grandchildren, Beth Femiano and her husband Chris, Karen Maciolek, Tracy Capron and her husband Christian, Skyler Torres Lazelle and his wife Rachael, Justin Torres, Kyle Torres, Lexi Franzyshen, and Ella Franzyshen; seven great grandchildren, Allie, Kate, and Riley Femiano, Henry and George Capron, and Greyson and Emerson Lazelle; his sister-in-law, Magdalene Torres of Berkeley Heights, and many other extended family members.

Out of respect and concern for public health and safety, funeral services and interment are to be held privately at the convenience of the family. The family will celebrate Ed’s life and memory at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, support can be offered to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, in honor of his great-grandson, George Capron, at https://www.chkd.org/Support-Us/Other-Ways-to-Give/Honor-and-Memorial-Gifts/
