Obituary of Leona Alagna
Leona (Cuccorese) Alagna passed away on Monday June 17, 2019 at her residence in Monroe Twp. with her family by her side. Leona was born and raised in Astoria, Queens and lived there most of her life before moving to Monroe Twp. 43 years ago. Leona received her Bachelor's Degree from Rutgers University when she was 58 years old and began her career at Plainfield High School where she taught English until her retirement in 2014. She was fluent in Italian and also taught English in Rome for a year and a half. Leona loved writing, music and playing the piano and was a columnist for the Cranbury Press. She was an active parishioner and member of the choir at St. Thomas the Apostle RC Church in Old Bridge for 35 years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, John Alagna of Monroe Twp., three daughters: Magdelena Schmidt and her husband Roderick of Brooklyn, Jennifer Alagna of Monroe Twp. and Patricia Wallace and her husband James of South River, one sister, Angela Fulgoni of Astoria, Queens and four grandchildren: Samantha, Joey, Eva and Dylan.
Visitation will be 6-9pm on Wednesday June 19, 2019, 2-4pm & 7-9pm on Thursday June 20, 2019 and 8:30am-9:30am on Friday June 21, 2019 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. - 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831. Funeral services will begin at 9:30am on Friday June 21, 2019 from the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be 10:15am on Friday at St. Thomas the Apostle RC Church - 333 NJ 18, Old Bridge, NJ 08857 followed by entombment in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum.
