Obituary of Gloria M. Oliva

Gloria M. Oliva, 97, of Monroe Township, NJ met peacefully with eternal rest on Wednesday May 29, 2019.  Gloria was raised in Perth Amboy, NJ by her parents Louisa DeSanto and Francisco Guarnieri along with her 11 brothers and sisters. She resided on Laurie Street, Colgate Avenue, and Madison Avenue. She and her late husband, John Oliva, raised their two children in Edison, NJ.  Most recently, she resided at Greenbriar at Whittingham in Monroe Township and Brookdale at Monroe.

Gloria was a beloved homemaker and a member of the Italian American Cultural Society of Monroe Township and The Greenbriar Choir.  She was very dedicated to her Catholic Faith and family, as they were the most important part of her life. Most will remember fondly Gloria’s melodic singing voice, joyous laughter, and delicious home cooked meals.

Those who precede Gloria in death include her husband of 50 years and four brothers and seven sisters:  twin brother, Carmine, Anna, Rose, Angie, Lucy, Adeline (Dolly), Theresa (Terry), Emma, Frank, Julius and Louis.

Gloria is survived by her son, Dr. Roger J. Oliva and his wife Semerita; daughter, Maria Naumik and her husband Stephen; grandchildren Dr. Gina Benaquista DeSipio and her husband Adam, Laura Marzano and her husband Domenic, Stephen Oliva and Sophia Oliva; great grandchildren Luca, Carlo, Domenic, Santino and Annalina; and her sister-in-law, Charlotte Oliva.  Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will be 3:00 - 7:00 on Friday June 7, 2019 and 8:15am – 9:15am on Saturday June 8, 2019 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. - 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ  08831 - 732-521-0555 -www.demarcofuneralhome.com. Funeral services will begin at 9:15am on Saturday June 8, 2019 from the funeral home.  A funeral liturgy will be 10:15am on Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, 32 Elm Ave, Metuchen, NJ 08840, followed by interment in Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery, Fords, NJ.
