Obituary of Francis P. Powers

Francis P. Powers died on Tuesday November 1, 2011 at the Pavillions @ Forrestal in Princeton. He was 85 years old. Mr. Powers was born in Brooklyn. He lived in Queens for over 22 years before moving to Rossmoor, Monroe Twp. in 1994. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a 1946 graduate of Tufts University, Boston, and was a database manager for Equitable Life Insurance Co. in NYC for 32 years before his retirement in 1981. He later served as a career counselor for Right Associates in NYC. He was a member of the American Legion. He was also past president of the Emerald Society of Rossmoor, a member of the Catholic Society of Rossmoor, and was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Rossmoor Golf Club. He was an avid baseball fan and followed the Brooklyn/L.A. Dodgers.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gertrude A. (Bird) Powers, four daughters, Patricia Kowalski and her husband Daniel of Plainsboro, Janine Kneller and her husband Bill of Old Bridge, Donna Gengler and her husband Paul of Eatontown, and Marybeth Roach and her husband Steve of Montgomery Twp., one brother, Thomas Powers of Brewer, ME, seven grandchildren, Daniel and Marybeth Kowalski, Matthew and Caitlin Kneller, Timothy and Kyle Nelson, and Brian Roach, and four great grandchildren, Christopher, Carolina, Victoria, and Veronica.
Funeral services will begin at 9:15am Saturday November 5, 2011 from the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. A funeral liturgy will be 10:00am at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Twp. followed by Interment in Holy Cross Burial Park, S. Brunswick. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the funeral home.
