Rosario L. Anastasio died on Wednesday August 3, 2011 at Hospice Inn in Melville, LI, NY. He was 93 years old. Mr. Anastasio was born in New York City and lived in the Bronx for 63 years before moving to Rossmoor, Monroe Twp. in 1980. He relocated to Melville, LI, NY to be closer to his nieces. He was a postal clerk at the New York City Midtown Station for 30 years before his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the US Postal Workers Union in Elmer Springs, MD. He served in the US Army during WWII and received a Bronze Star for bravery, heroism, and meritorious acts during the Philippine Campaign. He was a member of St. James the Less RC Church and St. James Knights of Columbus Council 6336, Jamesburg. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Elsie (Protosevich) Anastasio in 2000. He is survived by two nieces, Eileen Marcel of Levittown, LI, NY and Lauren Pena and her husband Richard of New Windsor, NY. A private cremation took place under the direction of the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. A memorial service will be announced at a time and place to be determined.
