Please share a memory of Geraldine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Geraldine M. (Lavinio) Borzello died Saturday April 30th at home. She was 67 years old. Born in Brooklyn, she recently moved from East Islip, New York to the Stonebridge Community in Monroe Township. She received a BA in Science Education and Biology from St. John's University in 1966, immediately after college she did research at Downstate Medical Center. She earned a Masters in Computers in Education from Long Island University, C.W. Post in 1988. Her education continued after her Master's work toward additional hours of certification in all the natural sciences. During a 35 plus year career as an educator, she taught science at the Madonna Heights School for Girls and later taught chemistry at Freeport High School on Long Island, for over 20 years, finally retiring in 2003. While at Freeport she taught D'Brickashaw Ferguson, now a NY Jets lineman. Her love of education and her students was evidenced in the extra hours spent tutoring any of them who wanted or needed extra care. Additionally, she tutored her four nephews in the sciences and the extra care helped them all pass their New York State regents exams with flying colors. Many of her students continued their love of the sciences by entering the medical field as nurses.
Her interests outside of education included reading, spending time with her family and friends, traveling, photography, gardening, shopping for and wearing fine clothing and jewelry. A special activity of hers was to bring home rocks, unique gemstones and
seashells from the places she visited, including Egypt, Greece, and Hawaii. She volunteered her time at a Holistic Health Care Center in Bay Shore, LI for several years.
Surviving are her daughter Jeannine, her husband, Joseph and her cherished grandson, Julian Anthony, of Durham, NC, with whom she especially enjoyed cruise
traveling, a sister, Diane her husband, Alan of Monroe Twp., a brother, John his wife, Carole of Staten Island, NY and four nephews, Michael, Christopher, Chad and David.
