Obituary of Neil Marotta

Neil Marotta died Sunday April 3rd at St. Peter's University Medical Center, New Brunswick. He was 84 years old. Born in Union City, he lived in Spotswood for 42 years, finally moving to Clearbrook in Monroe Township where he lived for the past 10 years. After receiving his BS in business administration from Jersey City State College, he served as director of buildings and grounds for the Monroe Township Board of Education for five years, retiring in 1991. Previously he held the same position for the Spotswood Board of Education for several years. He also was an active real estate agent in the Spotswood area. He served his community as a member of the Board of Education, as a member of the Recreation Commission and as Director of the Library Commission, all in Spotswood. He also served as a long-time Democratic committeeman. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor J. "Ellie" (DeScenza) Marotta in 1998 and a son, Richard J. Marotta in 2009. Surviving are his son, David N. of Jamesburg, two brothers, Libero of Union City and Joseph of Mahwah. Also surviving is a daughter in law, Nancy Marotta of Spotswood and a grandson, Joseph. Private cremation took place under the supervision of the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. A memorial gathering will be held Friday April 8th from 6 - 9pm at the funeral home, during which time a service of remembrance will be conducted at 8:15pm.
