There are no words to describe the sorrow of losing someome like Dot. I knew her through the ex-FBI Agents' annual Christmas parties where we always shared a table. She was kind and smart and strong, but the quality that I admired most was her take-no-prisoners attitude about enjoying life. One holiday, many years ago, I admired all the beautiful jewelry she was wearing—diamond rings, bracelets, broches, necklaces, the works—stunning as always. I said "Wow, Dot, Joe really lavishes expensive gifts on you! I will never own that much bling!" She looked at me, paused for just a second, and said in her inimitable throaty voice, "Oh Honey, if you think all this was GIVEN to me, you're crazy. I started buying my own jewelry YEARS ago and I'd suggest you do the same." The next week I started, and every year after that she would want me to show her how well I'd taken care of that issue. Thanks, Dot. You live on in all the sparkle you brought to everyone who knew you.
