Obituary of Alfred Manganiello

Alfred Manganiello, 100, of Monroe Twp. died on Monday September 17, 2018 at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro. Alfred was born and raised in the Belmont section of the Bronx and moved to the Castle Hill section in 1963 where he lived until moving to Monroe Twp. in 2000. Alfred proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. Alfred was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 37 years, retiring in 1979. While working for the Postal Service, he also had a part time job at A&P in the Bronx where he continued working after retirement. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in the Bronx where he was a founding member of the Holy Name Society. Alfred was also a founding member and officer of Caffuzzi Catholic War Veterans. A proud moment in Alfred’s life was during his younger years. He was awoken in the middle of the night by smoke at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. He climbed down the fire escape, ran over to the church and pulled the alarm to notify the fire department. Recently, Alfred received a Presidential Certificate and Medal to commemorate his service in WWII and celebrate his 100th birthday. He also received a certificate of blessing from the Pope.
Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, M. Rachel Manganiello (nee Scarano) to whom he was married for 65 years, his brother, Joseph Manganiello and his sister, Theresa Iacono.
He is survived by his son, Alfred Manganiello and his wife Rosemary of Newark, DE, two daughters: Marian Manganiello and her husband Alan Bourassa of Millstone Township and Felicia Manganiello of Jamesburg and two granddaughters: Abigail and Theresa Manganiello of Newark, DE.
Visitation will be 2-4pm & 7-9pm on Friday September 21, 2018 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. - 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831. Funeral services will begin at 9:15am on Saturday September 22, 2018 from the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be 10:45am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel - 627 E. 187 St., Bronx, NY 10458 followed by entombment in Ferncliff Mausoleum - 280 Secor Rd., Hartsdale, NY 10530.
