Obituary of Albert J. Stella, Sr.

Albert J. Stella, Sr., 99, of Monroe Twp. died on Monday June 4, 2018 at Compassionate Care Hospice at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton. Albert was born in Stratford, CT. He lived in the Bronx as a young man, graduated high school, was married and started a family there. The family moved to Bergenfield in 1951 and lived there until he and Eileen retired to Monroe Twp. in 1984. Albert proudly served his country during WWII, graduating Army Air Forces Officer Candidate School in 1943 and attaining the final rank of Captain. Albert represented the South African Rock Lobster Industry as their agent in the United States for 37 years until his retirement in 1984. He was a lifelong NY Yankees fan. Albert enjoyed recreational sports, especially golf, tennis, men’s softball and bowling. He spent many years with the Concordia Seniors and served as their president for 10 years. Albert was a parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord RC Church in Monroe Twp. Above all, Albert loved his family and the time he spent with them. Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen R. Stella (2013), his brother, Anthony Stella and his sister, Clara Zocki. He is survived by two sons: Albert J. Stella, Jr. and his wife Virginia of Manahawkin and Peter Stella and his wife Diana of Falls Church, VA, one daughter, Nancy Montgomery and her husband Russell of Kendall Park, six grandchildren: Kurt J. Stella and his wife Sarah Rosier, Andrew John Stella, John Albert Stella, Ana Maria Stella, Ryan E. Montgomery and his wife Deborah and Michael J. Montgomery and his wife Elizabeth and five great grandchildren: Wyatt John, Russell E., Julia R., Amelia L. and Caroline Y. Visitation will be 10am-12pm on Wednesday June 6, 2018 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. - 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 - 732-521-0555. A Catholic blessing will be 11:30am during the visiting hours. Interment will be 10:45am on Thursday June 7, 2018 at Mount Carmel Cemetery - 10 Serpentine Rd, Tenafly, NJ 07670.
