Obituary of Anne Zakaluk

Anne Zakaluk died peacefully on Tuesday December 12, 2017 at The Avalon at Hillsborough. She was 94 years old. Anne was born and raised in Manville. She lived in Newark for 35 years before retiring to Hillsborough. She was a 1943 graduate of Newark City Hospital School of Nursing and had a 38 year career in nursing at Newark City Hospital and Martland Medical Center. She also worked for several area nursing homes as an administrator. Anne was a devout Christian and was a life-long member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Manville. Anne was an excellent cook. Her family especially enjoyed her homemade pierogi and babka, which are among her recipes that have been passed down. She was pre-deceased by four sisters, Tekla Zakaluk, Mary Wolowina, her twin Helen Zakaluk and Vera DeMarco, and three brothers, Robert Zakaluk, Fred Zakaluk, and William Zakaluk. She is survived by one brother David Zakaluk and his wife Lillian of Florida, two sisters-in-law, Marie Zakaluk, and Jeanne Zakaluk, of Pennsylvania, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, and great great nephews. Visitation will be from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Monday December 18, 2017 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 34 S 3rd Ave, Manville, NJ 08835. A funeral service will take place at the conclusion of the visiting hour at 12:00pm at the church. Interment will follow in Bound Brook Cemetery, Bound Brook.
