Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elizabeth (Liz) Mendoni Olexsak, 79, died on Saturday September 30, 2017 at her residence in Monroe Twp., NJ. Born in the Lenox Hill section of Manhattan, New York City, she moved to the Bronx after her marriage to childhood sweetheart, John Olexsak. They moved to Aberdeen Twp., NJ in 1963 and also lived in Freehold Twp. and Monroe Twp., NJ. She was a legal secretary, retiring from the Monmouth County Division of Social Services in 1999.
Liz cherished her family and enjoyed time spent with her sons and their families who lived nearby. She felt fortunate to be able to be a part of her grandchildren’s lives as they were growing up. She was an animal lover, especially the family dogs. Her interests were writing, reading, beachcombing, bread baking and she was the family genealogist. She was a passionate gardener who enjoyed every moment tending to her flowers, hiking through the woods, walking along the beaches from Cape Cod to St. George Island, FL and of course the Jersey Shore. She appreciated the simple pleasures of life - like a “slice” and a glass of wine.
Liz was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Butts Mendoni; her aunt and godmother, Deborah Marie Butts; brother Joseph Mendoni and daughter in law, Valerie Whalen Olexsak.
Surviving are John, her beloved and devoted husband of 61 years; sons, John Andrew of Howell, NJ and Stephen Joseph and his wife Susan of Allentown, NJ; grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth, twins William James and Luke Edward; twin sister Theresa Saunders of E. Northport, NY, sister Florence Mucci of Bluffton, SC and their spouses Alfred and Vincent; brother Robert Mendoni of Queens, NY, his spouse Marion and deceased brother Joseph’s wife, Mary of Hilton Head, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be 9:30am on Saturday October 7, 2017 at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church - 185 Applegarth Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 followed by interment in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery - Freehold, NJ.
