Lawrence Flatley died on Sunday May 21, 2017 at The Gardens at Monroe, Monroe Twp. He was 92 years old. Mr. Flatley was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. He came to the US in 1954 and settled in West New York, NJ. He later lived in North Bergen, West Carteret, and Avenel, and has resided in Rossmoor, Monroe Twp. since 2011. He served in the Royal Navy during WWII and was a maintenance mechanic for Maxwell House in Hoboken for 26 years before his retirement in 1990. He was an avid golfer and loved to sing. He was most well-known for his famous joke telling. He was a member of the Scots-American Club of Kearny.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Minnie (Calder) Flatley of Rossmoor, Monroe Twp., three children, Donald Flatley and his wife Josephine of Monmouth Junction, Janet Costi and her husband Moisis of Monroe Twp., and Lauren Frye and her husband Jack of Chaleston, SC, one brother, Robert Flately of England, six grandchildren, Jillian and her husband Chris, Allison, Ross, Heather, C.J., and Kristofer, one great granddaughter, Kaylah, and many other extended family members.
Cremation is private.
A memorial gathering will be from 12:00pm – 2:00pm on Saturday June 10, 2017 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. A memorial service will begin at the conclusion of the gathering hours at 2pm at the funeral home.
