Obituary of Charles P. Hammer

Charles P. Hammer died on Monday May 1, 2017 at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 70 years old. Mr. Hammer was born and raised in Jersey City. He later lived in Roselle, Keasbey, and Edison before moving to The Ponds, Monroe Twp. in 2013. He began his career as a machinist for Jersey City Printing. He then worked as a field service technician for Bobst Champlain Inc. in Roseland prior to becoming a senior manufacturing engineer for Curtiss Wright Corp. in Fairfield. He retired in 2016 after a 23 year career as a plant superintendent for Potdevin Machine Co. in West Caldwell. He was a member of The Ponds Bird Watchers Club, enjoyed singing doo-wop and sang doo-wop with two musical groups named the Del Capris. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles P. Hammer, Sr. and Marie (Savino) Hammer, and his brother, James F. Kennedy. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Frances (Ferraro) Hammer of The Ponds, Monroe Twp., three children, Charles A. Hammer of Belle Mead, Heather Hammer of Monroe Twp., and Jamie Hammer of Staten Island, his sister, Louise Pacos and her husband John of Fairlawn, his sister-in-law, Barbara Kennedy of Monroe Twp., and many other extended family members. Visitation will be from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Friday May 5, 2017 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. 205 Rhode Hall Rd. Monroe Twp., NJ 08831, 732-521-0555. Funeral services will begin at 8:45am on Saturday May 6, 2017 from the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be 9:30am at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Twp. followed by Entombment in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, S. Brunswick. For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to either The American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, OR to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
