Abraham 'Al' Schickler passed away peacefully on Thursday February 23, 2017 with his family by his side. He was 79 years old. Al was born and raised in New York City, where he met the love of his life, Rosalie, as a teenager. He resided in Brooklyn for most of his life before moving to The Regency at Monroe in Monroe Twp., NJ in 2001. He served in the US Army and was an importer of foreign car parts in NYC. He was an avid golfer and stamp collector. He enjoyed sports and followed the New York Yankees, New York Rangers, and the New York Football Giants. Most of all, Al cherished the time spent with his family, especially traveling and enjoying family dinners together.
He was predeceased by his wife Rosalie in 2012, and two sisters.
He is survived by three children, Richard Schickler and his wife Cindy of Ridgefield, CT; Susan Infuso and her husband Eric of Monroe Twp., NJ; and Diane Avellini and her husband Hugo of Jamesburg, NJ; five grandchildren: Erica, Joseph, Victoria, Jonathan, and Noah; three siblings: Leonard Schickler and his wife Ellen of Monroe Twp., NJ; Robert Schickler and his wife Debra of East Windsor, NJ; and Dottie Charcofsky and her husband Abie of NYC; his father-in-law, Salvatore Mellina of Lincroft; and many other extended family members.
The family will be receiving friends and relatives at a gathering to celebrate Al's life on Sunday, February 26, 2017 between 1 and 3 p.m. at Forsgate Country Club, 375 Forsgate Drive, Monroe Twp., NJ 08831.
Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 11:15 a.m. at Brigadier General William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ. Cars must line-up at the information center just past the main gate off of Province Line Road promptly at 11:10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Al's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
