Obituary of Virginia Veleria (Laney) Griffin

Virginia Veleria (Laney) Griffin passed away on Friday August 19, 2016 at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. Virginia was born on February 13, 1916 in Brewer, MS. She was raised in Brewer and later resided in Tupelo, MS and Milltown, NJ prior to moving to East Brunswick in 1952. She graduated from Verona High School in 1933 and continued her education at Itawamba Community College where received her Associate's Degree 1935. While residing in Tupelo, she worked as a payroll manager for Carnation Milk Products. Upon moving to New Jersey, she worked as an office manager for Personal Products in Milltown. She was co-owner, secretary, and treasurer of W.V. Griffin Nurseries, Inc. in East Brunswick. She married her late husband, Willets V. Griffin on January 24, 1947. She volunteered for the East Brunswick Public Library, was active in various PTA's, and was a Cub Scout leader. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Jamesburg and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at the Church. She was a member and former president of the Jamesburg Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, spending time at her beach house, and cherished the time spent with her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, William A. Laney in 1969 and Sallie G. Laney in 1962, her husband, Willets V. Griffin in 2000, and one sister, Zimmie Sue Temple in 1986.
She is survived by two children, Sara F. Griffin of Monroe Twp., and William V. Griffin and his wife, Cathy B. of Plainsboro, one nephew, Rev. Edwin M. Temple and his wife Edee of Batesville, MS, and many other extended family members.
Visitation will be on Thursday August 25, 2016 from 9:30am to 11:00am at The Presbyterian Church of Jamesburg 175 Gatzmer Ave. Jamesburg, NJ 08831. A service will begin at the conclusion of the visitation at 11:00am at the church. Interment will follow in Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan, NJ. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the M.
