William F. Gilliland, 94, of Spotswood died on Wednesday April 27, 2016 at Cranbury Center, Monroe Twp. William was born in Jamesburg and resided in Jamesburg and then Spotswood for 75 years. William proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a painter for Hercules Incorporated in Parlin for 40 years until his retirement in 1980. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception RC Church in Spotswood. William was the oldest living volunteer fireman for the Spotswood Fire Dept., a volunteer for the Spotswood First Aid Squad and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Immaculate Conception. William was preceded in death his wife Mary H. (Szymanski) Gilliland, his son Joseph Gilliland, three brothers: John Gilliland, Lester Gilliland and Robert Gilliland and three sisters: Dorothy Phares, Elizabeth Dudkin and Ethel Shea. He is survived by two sons: William F. Gilliland and his wife Bernice of Monroe Twp., Walter A. Gilliland and his wife Edwina of Clermont, FL, his daughter, Mary Ann Sechrist and her husband Paul Witmer of Myrtle Beach, SC, one sister, Willetta Paprocki of Manalapan, ten grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9pm on Monday May 2, 2016 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. – 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 – 732-521-0555. Funeral services will begin at 9:30am on Tuesday May 3, 2016 from the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be 10:15am on Tuesday at Immaculate Conception RC Church – Spotswood followed by entombment in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum – South Brunswick. In lieu of flowers and for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Spotswood Enterprise Hook and Ladder Co., Inc. – 495 Main St., Spotswood, NJ 08884 – www.spotswoodfire.org.
